There were two competing solutions for a long-term strategic need. Based on the initial review by management their non-recurring costs were nearly identical. With limited development budget, management couldn’t decide which solution to invest in.
Although the initial investment figures were known, data for market capture was speculative and the financial impact to the program was unknown.
In addition to creating a scorecard and delineating the differences, Collinear worked up upstream and downstream users to understand any potential impacts.
THE COLLINEAR ADVANTAGE:
Although the initial assignment was to choose one of two solutions for investment, by interviewing downstream users Collinear was able to identify a significant cost savings that would be enabled if one of the two solutions was chosen.
Instead of presenting company leadership with an investment request for $3M this was able to gain approval as a cost savings initiative valued at $9M.
